Fat Loss: Is Exercise Necessary?

Weight loss, actually fat loss, is an often misunderstood art. The general conception appears to be that exercise is required on some level in order to produce significant weight loss from the obese state. However, this may not be the case. In order to understand the reasons behind this it is important to understand that metabolic damage from consumption of the wrong types of foods is the cause of obesity, and therefore the solution is the reversal of this process through the consumption of higher quality foods. Exercise is not a requirement. For example, in one study rersearchers administered a diet to a group of obese women with and without additional exercise for 16 weeks. Significant reductions in body weight of about 10 kg or 10 % were observed in the women, and this included reductions in total, abdominal subcutaneous, visceral, and intermuscular fat. However, the additional exercise did not have an effect on the weight loss seen in the women, suggesting that it was the dietary changes that caused the effect in totality.
