odybuilding is a noble art that is generally looked upon by outsiders with disdain. Most bodybuilders are aware of the ignorance and criticism directed toward themselves by the layman and have personal experience of being ostracised for their self discipline and commitment to their art form. Most view bodybuilding as an obsessive behaviour that is incomprehensible to their mainstream belief systems with its strange eating patterns and training exercises. As a result, bodybuilders have been ostracised from mainstream gyms through carefully orchestrated and systematic dismantling of all equipment required by the bodybuilding student. An obsession with cardiovascular equipment and weights so light that an average man could lift them without prior training has generally had the desired effect of repelling the serious weight trainers. High street gyms are now inhabited by normal looking people who endlessly tread water gaining little in the way of benefits for their efforts.
I believe the real problem with bodybuilders to the mainstream health industry is that bodybuilders generally know what they are doing and know how to get results. This means that they do not continually stay fat, and are therefore a poor customer to the corporations that sell fat solutions. The mainstream health industry needs diets and exercise to fail, so that the customer comes back for more and continues to buy expensive fad diets and exercise regimens. The fact is that bodybuilders generally have more muscle, less body fat, are healthier, and look better than the average man. Yet the average man ostracises the art due to societal programming, and chooses a corporate path which inevitable results in abject failure. Blame follows failure, and the same man continues down the same path like a moth attracted to a light bulb. This cycle repeats itself and the health industry grows rich.
Perhaps if such individuals stopped endlessly running on hamster wheels and instead investigated the art of bodybuilding, they might learn the secret to staying lean. In fact, staying lean is no secret to any body builder who has advanced beyond the neophyte stage. Bodybuilders know that to look good, you have to eat clean. This means eating a high quality diet high in protein, but absent of processed and sugary foods. It is the exclusion of junk and processed foods, not cardiovascular exercise or dieting, that moderates body fat. Most bodybuilders do virtually no cardiovascular exercise, yet have a much lower percentage body fat than many endurance athletes. In addition most non-competitive bodybuilders eat well year round with little or no restriction of calories, some consuming 50 % or more calories than the average man. In contrast, most mainstream gym goers are compulsive cardiovascular exercisers and are fat, out of shape and constantly dieting. You do the maths.
