Can Junk Food Be Healthy?

Junk food is difficult to categorise, but a general definition might be food which provides no nutritional benefit and which at the same time might provide detrimental effects. Clearly some junk foods are worse than others, as the detrimental effects of some junk foods are severe metabolic disruption. However the main problem with most junk food is simply the amount of energy it provides. This can be damaging, but if timed correctly, for example after a workout, and if eaten in moderation, the negative effects can be attenuated somewhat. Some junk foods are perhaps misnamed, as a pizza is really no different to a cheese sandwich nutritionally. Whilst one is considered junk food, the other is not. Scotch eggs are perhaps also considered a junk food, but they provide a good source of high quality protein along with vitamins. The worst type of junk foods are those that contain high amounts of sugar, that are physically addictive, or that contain chemicals that can cause metabolic problems, and which provide no real nutritional benefit.
