Ephedrine has been shown to have beneficial fat loss properties. These properties have been evidenced to be enhanced in the presence of other compounds including green tea, caffeine, capsaicin and aspirin. The mechanism of action for ephedrine has been evidenced to include an increase in body temperature which is caused by an increased oxidation of fatty acids due to activation of the beta-adrenergic receptors of the 1, 2 and 3 subclass. However, there are likely other reasons for the weight loss effects of ephedrine. For example, ephedrine also has significant appetite suppressant effects. This likely contributes significantly to the overall weight loss effects of ephedrine. In addition, ephedrine also increases mental and physical energy levels, and this can significantly distract the individual from normal routine. This may reduce the propensity to eat because distraton cause the thoughts and feelings towards foods to change, thereby limiting energy intake indirectly.
