Fast Food for Health

Fast food is often considered to be bad for the health. Generally this is true if referring to high fat, high sugar, salt laden foods that might be bought from a typical garage, fast food restaurant or supermarket. However, there are many foods that can be quickly prepared with minimal cooking time, and which can also improve the health. For example, baked beans in tomato sauce have been shown to provide health benefits when no additional changes are made to the diet (here). A meal such as baked beans on toast therefore is both convenient to prepare and healthy. Eggs on toast also provide high quality nutrition, as eggs are important sources of a number on nutrients including some B vitamins, protein, essential fatty acids and energy. Frozen vegetables can also be convenient to prepare because they only require heating in boiling water for a few minutes before consumption, and therefore require little preparation. Mackerel on toast is an excellent source of essential fatty acids and protein, and requires no other preparation than opening a tin and toasting some whole grain bread.
