L-Arginine and L-Lysine: Growth Hormone

L-arginine and L-lysine administration may have some interesting physiological effects. In particular, 1200 mg of L-arginine in combination with 1200 mg of L-lysine caused a significant release of pituitary somatotrophin and insulin in one study when administered intraveneously. This effect in the study was reproducible, occurred in healthy men and the release was biologically active. One interesting finding of this study was that in this case the amino acids needed to be administered in combination in order to have an effect as in isolation neither amino acids produced the same effect. The physiological benefits of these amino acids in combination are not fully understood despite the long amount of time that has passed since this study. However, growth hormone release is known to cause a general reduction in body fat as well as produce other tissue regenerative processes. Therefore taking a combination of L-arginine and L-lysine may produce significant healthy effects in healthy males.
