The purpose of this website is not to overload the reader with statistical analysis, because this would detract from the important nutritional information. However, some statistical concept will be mentioned or covered and this unfortunately in inevitable when reviewing scientific research. Contained within this section of the website is therefore a brief explanation of some of the most frequently encountered statistical terms and methods found in the nutritional literature. The P value is universal to all statistical analysis and this is probably the most important and easiest concept to understand. In epidemiological research, which is concerned with investigating populations, odds ratio, relative risk and regression analysis are frequently used. It is hoped by understanding these terms and others, that the data in the reviewed research will become more accessible. The reader is therefore encouraged to download the full papers in order to deepen their understanding of the results.
