The Benefits of Goats Milk

Goat’s milk is nutritionally beneficial. Some of this benefit comes from the fact that those that cannot tolerate cow’s milk can often tolerate goat’s milk. When such individuals switch to consuming goat’s milk, idiopathic health problems they may have can disappear, and this is particularly true in the case of allergies. Most commonly these allergies manifest as joint paint, gastrointestinal discomfort or skin problems. It is thought that β-lactoglobulin is the most likely candidate from cow’s milk for causing allergies as it is not present in human milk. In one study, goats milk has been shown to cause greater growth rates in children compared to cow’s milk suggesting that it was nutritionally superior. The goat’s milk also caused improvements in blood vitamin A, calcium, thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin, when compared to cow’s milk. Feeding goat’s milk to animals has also shown that absorption of nutrients, including copper and iron, increases, probably due to repair of the surface of the gastrointestinal tract.

Goat’s milk contains higher amounts of medium chain triglycerides (MCT). In goat’s milk there is 36 % MCT compared to 21 % in cow’s milk. This may cause improvements in blood cholesterol levels and improvements in energy utilisation.
