The Importance of Researching Nutrition

Science is a system of observations and findings based on a method of standardised operations. Research is at best a tool to provide some meaning to data and should never be treated as a proof for anything. Instead scientific observations should be seen as one line of logic and reason that can be used to create a picture in conjunction with other forms of evidence. Research in nutrition is very difficult and it is easy for researchers to create bias (intentionally or unintentionally) or to misinterpret data (thus providing false information). It is therefore important to do personal research into any nutritional matter, which can obviously include the collection of anecdotal information. If something works, the science behind it is not really important, and this includes cases involving the placebo effect. Likewise, certain foods may disagree with certain individuals and in such cases no amount of data showing positive health outcomes can ever overcome this. Therefore always research your own diet and make changes based on what works personally.
