Many people wish to follow a healthy high quality diet. Many people start such a diet with the best of intentions. However, very few manage to remain on such a diet for long and soon return to their bad eating habits and low quality foods. The main problem is that most people are totally unaware that the low quality food they eat may be acting as an addictive drug. High sugar, high fat, processed food has been shown time and again in scientific research to act in the same way as addictive drugs. Many individuals are therefore addicted to their low quality food, and when they switch to a higher quality diet, the withdrawal symptoms force them to soon return to their old eating patterns. As with all addictive drugs, quitting is not easy. However, those who stick to their new diet will soon overcome the addictive properties of their old food. However, willpower is needed if the change is to be made successfully.
